The Mindfulness Series: A Philosophical Exploration and Guided Practice
Welcome to the Mindfulness Series! These 5 sessions will tackle the topic of mindfulness practice. Each session has a different theme and includes formal lecture, group discussion and guided meditation.
Here is the full list of sessions:
Session 1: Mindfulness & Stress Reduction
Session 2: Mindfulness & the Perception of Reality
Session 3: Mindfulness & the Concept of Acceptance
Session 4: Mindfulness & Affect Tolerance
Session 5: Mindfulness & the Concept of Presence
(Please note that the first one is foundational and covers the key principles of mindfulness practice).
How do these sessions on mindfulness differ from other offerings that are out there? Well, as philosophical types we can't resist the temptation to analyze. In my opinion rational analysis is largely missing from some more new age renditions of mindfulness. I also believe that as rational beings we are able to more firmly commit to and benefit from something when we appreciate the rationale behind it. The sessions also include many philosophical twists as we will explore insights and questions about ourselves, our cognition and the nature of reality that emerge with the study of mindfulness.
The sessions are both theoretical and hands-on. You will come away from this series with both a conceptual and experiential understanding of what mindfulness is, as well as ways to incorporate this practice into your life for increased wellness.
*Please note, this is group exploration of mindfulness for everyday stress, worry, and the pondering of reality. For more serious psychological disturbance, professional psychological help should be sought.
