Welcome to JulieWellness!

Julie, Peter's Woods

As ancient brains in a modern world, we are under constant siege.  From the addictive grip of technology, severe sedentary ways, and a massive disconnection from each other - we fall out of orbit.  Never has it been more important to have a healthy practice that lets you commune deeply with your mind and keep your body moving.

I'm on a quest to contemplate more, move more, experience more.

Philosophical wellness is important for a life of love, joy and fulfillment.  I would be honoured to share with you insights and tools I have garnered from years of studying philosophy and cognitive science.

Find more acceptance and peace, experience more spiritual bliss, relate better to others, think more clearly, be more effective.  See how these principles can be applied to the practical matters of life.

Let's live more deeply

My Perspective

We see the world from various different vantages.  It is an interplay between reality and our own cognition.  Our own cognition is composed of different systems, each with its own processing style and unique phenomenological experience.  Depending on the cognitive mode we are in, different ways of interacting and being in the world come into play.

Modern people live in and identify too much with the verbal and analytic systems.  This profoundly affects our sense of well-being, our ways of relating with others, and also our ability to counter existential angst.  We are estranged from our more ancestral ways and this leads to a chronic state of imbalance.  Still, our older, automatic and non-verbal aspects are the powerhouse behind every thought, emotion and action.  There is much benefit from learning the ways of these ancient systems in order to help steer the direction they lead us, in order to further tolerate and come to the other side of strong emotions, and in order to fully experience a sense of profoundness.  Exploration of the different cognitive systems also gives insight into paradoxes and philosophical problems.  It is a tool for delivering different ways of getting at questions of ultimate reality and the meaning of life.

While there is therapeutic value in the exploration of philosophical questions, this intellectual activity falls short all on its own.  As overly-cerebral types we tend to forget that we are real people living real lives and that we need to function well on every realm.  For this reason, I lean towards theoretical approaches that have practical value.  Approaches that are evidence-based and results oriented.  Insights and tools that have real effects on our well-being, relationships, and spiritual inquiry too.
